JurisBrain is the attorney’s second brain: a real-time assistant that sits in on live client consultations and acts like a senior partner in the room, surfacing the questions and risks a good lawyer would hate to realize they missed, so they can stay fully present with their client. We build technology that makes good lawyers better, never technology that replaces them. This is a genuine ground-floor opportunity to shape the product and the engineering foundation from the start.
The role
We are looking for one capable, self-directed engineer to take over our code-related work end to end. You would be our primary builder, working most closely with the founders. The immediate focus is getting us to launch and supporting the rollout that follows: shipping the final pieces, turning customer feedback into fixes, and keeping the app healthy on both Windows and macOS. This is a hands-on building role, not an advisory one. We also take feedback seriously. Your technical judgment and your ideas will genuinely shape the product and how we work, so you will be heard, not just handed a spec.
What you will do
Build and ship our Electron desktop app, owning new features from idea to release.
Get us to launch: Windows code signing, payment integration, and the free-trial setup come first.
Tune and test the product’s real-time reasoning, and raise the bar on reliability.
Support the rollout with technical support and quick fixes on both Windows and macOS, and turn customer feedback into improvements, once we are live.
Own the build and release pipeline, deployments, and the daily engineering calls that keep us moving.
Handle sensitive legal data with care, and help us hold the line on privacy and security.
If the engagement continues beyond the initial rollout, help us grow into new practice areas, working alongside legal domain experts to shape the prompts and logic that power the product.
Our stack
A cross-platform desktop application built on Electron and TypeScript in a modern monorepo.
Frontier large language models driving real-time reasoning, grounded by a retrieval layer over our proprietary legal knowledge base.
A live pipeline that turns a real conversation into sound, well-grounded guidance on the spot.
Who we are looking for
Strong work ethic and genuine ownership.
A clear, frequent communicator who keeps a fast-moving team in the loop.
Self-directed, pragmatic, and quick to learn.
Fluent on both Windows and macOS. Our app ships on both, so you can build, test, and support customers on each. Hands-on experience with both is ideal.
Careful with sensitive work, and interested in building technology that makes skilled professionals better.
Logistics
Independent contractor (1099), 20 hours per week, flexible scheduling.
Remote. We lean toward candidates in the Seattle area or elsewhere on the West Coast. Please tell us where you are based.
A flat fee of $2,000 per month for a minimum of 20 hours per week of availability. We share the exact figure for transparency: it is what we can afford at this stage, and it comes with genuine room to grow with us.
An ongoing, month-to-month engagement focused first on launch and rollout, with a review together after the first few months. If it is a good fit and our needs grow, there is real potential for it to continue and expand.
